Episode 2 definitely gave more answers, but also raises more questions.
EPISODE 2: SUMMARY
- Dad reappears after his disappearance, but doesn't give us more answers. Instead, he confuses us even more. He pretends to be oblivious to what his daughter experienced and insists that he drew the last two episodes. However, as the episode progressed, we find out that he no longer has complete control over how the story develops. His goal from now on is to end the series as soon as possible by killing KC.
- After finding out that her dad is attempting to kill KC in webtoon, OYJ attempts to stop him. While on the phone with him, she teleports to 'W'. She rushes to the hospital that KC is staying at and saves him from a potential heart attack stimulated by potassium injection from a nurse. She then is drilled a dozen questions, but convinces KC to help her escape. KC gives her a phone and promises they promise to be in contact upon his discharge.
- Fast forward two months (but only seemed like 30 mins to OYJ), KC calls her and she picks up. They go to a store to shop for new clothes as she is in a sweater while everyone else is dressed for summer. OYJ freaks out in the store, and figures that the only way for her to go back to her world is by giving the 'chapter' a proper ending - she slaps KC and then kisses him. It worked, and as soon as she saw the 'to be continued...' sign, she escapes.
- When she is back, only 30 minutes has passed in her world and the new chapter of "W" is released. This confuses the manhwa team, but her father took the credit of finishing the chapter by himself. Father and daughter had another argument over the phone. It ends with the dad locking himself in a hotel room to finish the "last" chapter of the manhwa. However, as he finishes the panel where KC is involved in a collision with a huge truck, the panel is erased by an unknown source. As that was happening, time stopped (or was slowed down incredibly) in 'W' and KC manages to escape the accident all together.
EPISODE 2 COMMENTARY
This episode also gave us more information about the author of the webtoon. First of all, the dad is definitely aware of the two but there is no definite time as to when the characters of 'W' manifested in real life. It was shocking to the fans and audience that he attempted to kill KC, which seemed to only happen for the first time in the first episode. So perhaps the phenomenon of the story writing itself only manifested recently... The dad seems to acknowledge this fact, but also tries to live in oblivion. I don't blame him at all - imagine creating something of your own, only for it to take on a life of its own. It's kind of sad seeing his desperate efforts in convincing OYJ (and probably himself) that it was all a fantasy. I guess from here on out, we'll find out how much of the storyline he can control, how much is controlled by OYJ, and how much cannot be controlled at all.
This episode gave us more information about the two worlds. So far only OYJ (and maybe her father) was able to travel between the two worlds. For some reason the camera work focused on the raining a lot before she teleported into 'W' in this episode so maybe it had something to do with it. Both times, she was able to teleport as the manhwa team is working on the next chapter. The specific way for her to will herself into 'W', however, is still a mystery. In this chapter, she OYJ discovered a method to come back to her world - she would have to 'create' a proper ending to the chapter herself in 'W' and wait for the "to be continued..." sign to appear.
This episode also gave light to the time aspect between the two worlds. The duration of time that OYJ spends in each world is the same, but any fast forwarding of time in "W" does not affect OYJ's world. I'm speculating that the time that passes by in "W" equals the same amount of it takes to draw the panels in the webtoon.
For the next episodes, I'm curious to see how they will develop KC and OYJ's relationship and for them to uncover more information about the two worlds. It seems like the side characters interacting with the two have some suspicion, but will wait a bit before really researching into it. I'm looking forward to see how much KC knows - Does he know (from his instinct) that OYJ is from a different world? Will the cell phone work across the two worlds? What will he think of the car accident episode? Is he the one who first changed the manhwa? Is he real?
I also pray for smart side characters for the plot to unfold in a fast pace - the doctors should catch something is wrong soon enough: they've witness OYJ's wardrobe change to EXACTLY the same outfit drawn in the manhwa. Park Soo Bong (the male editor) seems to be also suspicious as well. KC's secretary (YSH) and bodyguard (SDY) are suspicious of OYJ and her mysterious identity. I really hope she can think of a reasonable story for her existence!
