Story of Yanxi Palace - Episode 8 [Recap]

Ying Luo visits Ling Long in jail and gets her to confess that she used Ji Xiang as a scapegoat.

Ying Luo transferred to be one of the Empress' servants, with the motive of wanting to know the truth behind her sister's death. On her first day there, the Empress' Brother, Fu Heng, visits.  She drops the jade pendant that was found with her sister's possessions.  The Fu Heng notices it and asks for it back. Ying Luo asked him to prove that it was his. He did so by saying that it was chipped at the bottom from a time he dropped it.  Ying Luo further asks him where he lost it and he said it could have been anywhere. Ming Yu, the Empress' servant, oversees their exchange, appears jealous and confronts Ying Luo about it.  To vent out her jealousy, Ming Yu makes Ying Luo sweep the floor of the whole palace and to wipe down everything until it is spotless.

The next day, all other servants ignore Ying Luo as instructed by Ming Yu. Ying Luo feels left out.

Ying Luo brings in a water bath for the Empress but then is intercepted by Ming Yu. Ying Luo warns her that it seems like there would be a thunderstorm tonight and suggests that they should do something to protect the Empress' flowers. Ming Yu ignores her and brings the water bath to the Empress, complaining to her about Ying Luo, saying that she is lazy and isn't do any work.

Ying Luo is outside and observes that there is a strong wind. She once again warns Ming Yu that there is going to be a storm tonight but she continues to dismiss her. She even went as far as getting one of the other servants to vouch for her, saying that there is no wind even though the plants are clearly swaying from the wind.

Next thing you know, the night comes and it's thunderstorming outside. The Empress wakes up, frantically worried about her flowers.  She goes outside only to see Ying Luo hard at work, covering all her flowers with a tarp to protect them from the storm.  The other servants help her. That night, Ying Luo goes and bring ginger tea for the girls.

The next day, Noble Consort Gao and Lady Jia go visit the Empress and sees Ying Luo. Noble Consort Gao remembers her trickery from before and orders the servants to cut Ying Luo's tongue off to vent her anger.  The Empress intercepted before it could happen and told Noble Consort Gao that only she could punish her own servants and that she is overstepping her boundaries.  After the two left, Ying Luo tells the Empress that Noble Consort Gao was angry at her because she tricked her into thinking that she was dumb. This makes the Empress laugh, but she warns Ying Luo not to provoke her too much.

Noble Consort Gao and Lady Jia start planning their next scheme. Lady Jia tells her to get rid of Lady Yu (who is pregnant). Noble Consort Gao confronts her, saying that she is using her to get rid of obstacles for her own son.

The Emperor warns the two ministers not to misuse his trust in him.  Fu Heng then meets with the Emperor and asks him if he decided whether to kill the minister (Consort Xian's Brother) or not.  He says that he would.

Consort Xian is making a gift for the Emperor and her servant gets mad at her, saying that she is too nice and that the Emperor doesn't appreciate her as much as he should. Her mother then comes in to ask her to beg the Emperor to forgive her brother.

-------------------

I really hope that Ying Luo can help the Empress rather than use her as a stepping stone to figuring out the truth behind her sister's death.  It seems like she's starting to earn the Empress' trust and I hope she doesn't misuse it in any way.  I have a feeling that Ming Yu's jealousy is going to get the best of her... and eventually, she'll oust Ying Luo in some way, which may or may not involve the Empress as well.

I don't know how Fu Heng is connected to her sister's death but I think he's a good guy.  Maybe they were possibly lovers? Maybe it was just a coincidence that the charm ended up with Ying Luo's sister. Hopefully, Ying Luo doesn't just get caught up in seeking revenge.
