She washes her clothes for the first time and learns how to cook rice and gather the crops. Few days later, Kuchon comes home to see a proper meal prepared for him. However, he noticed that Chaehwa didn't wear the pin he gave her.
One day, Kuchon comes home and sees Chaehwa sleeping on the table outside and touches her cheek. This wakes her up and she immediately packed her things and leaves. As she leaves, the baby starts to cry. Suddenly, it starts to rain and Kuchon runs after her to give her a raincoat made by bamboo. He kneels in front of her and walks back in the rain. Seeing his back reminds her of the Field Marshal. She then runs after him and gives him leaves to shade him from the rain. They both walk back to their house.
The two widows tells Chaehwa that Kuchon is trustworthy and a good person despite being mute and tells her to treasure him even if they are not true lovers. He is someone she can depend on.
One day, after delivering the jade, Kuchon meets with someone and he gives him a box. Chaehwa didn't see him go home that night and was worried about what he was up to. She sees him the next day and he gives her the box... which seems to be the ashes of her late father and his beads. They bury it beside the house.
Inside the house, Chaehwa takes off the hairpin that the Field Marshal gave him and talks to herself, saying that she wanted to die with her father but the child inside of her stopped her from doing so. She was going to kill herself after the child was born but seeing her prolonged her decision to kill herself.
She then puts on the jade hairpin that Kuchon gave her just as he turns around. She tells him that her fate is to be with him, not the Field Marshal and gives him permission to hold her. Flustered, Kuchon leaves the room. After gathering himself, he goes back into the room.
Two years later, we see Solnan as a toddler and Solhi, her younger sister and the daughter of Chaehwa and Kuchon.
